Fratesi set a Canadian record of 2:11.16 in the 200-metre backstroke at the 2001 FINA World Championships in Fukuoka, Japan, but lost a bronze medal by 0.11 of a second to Great Britain"s Joanna Fargus. In the morning"s preliminary heats, Fratesi recorded the sixth fastest time of 2:13.00 to advance to the semifinals. Fratesi also teamed up with Erin Gammel, Lauren van Oosten and Brittany Reimer for the women"s 4x100-metre medley relay.
Swimming the butterfly third leg, Fratesi recorded a time of 1:01.60, and the Canadian team went on to finish the second heat in sixth place, in a total time of 4:09.84.
