Morton, Jeremiah Rogers was born on February 10, 1842 in Clark Company, Kentucky, United States. Son of John and Ann Elizabeth (Rogers) Morton.
Educated Transylvania Academy. Graduate law school, Kentucky, University.
Admitted to Kentucky bar, February 1868. Was in Confederate army summer of 1862 to end of war, except when a prisoner in Camp Chase and Camp Douglas. Judge 10th judicial district, including Fayette Company and city of Lexington, 10 years.
