Jeremy Magee Taylor Edit Profile

Photographer

Jeremy Magee Taylor was a photographer.

Background

Jeremy Magee Taylor was born on March 11, 1938, in Montreal, Quebec, Canada. He grew up into the vibrant cultural mix of Paul Robeson's music and Goodridge Roberts and Stanley Cosgrove's paintings.

Education

In his early teens, Jeremy Taylor developed a passion for modern jazz. But it was in 1959 while visiting his father in San Miguel, Mexico, that his life-long fascination with photography began. He was largely self-taught marrying these interests with a third-the spiritual path.

His early photographic influences include Heri-Cartier Bresson, Edward Weston, Alfred Stieglitz, Minor White, and Ansel Adams, whose workshop he attended in 1969.

Jeremy Taylor studied at the Instituto Allende, San Miguel de Allende, Guanajuato, Mexico.

Career

Realizing his talent for making fine art photographic prints, Jeremy Taylor established a commercial specialty printing studio in Toronto. In this role, he worked as a traditional artisan, making exquisite photographic prints for other artists. As a photographer, he challenged himself daily to document the world and its symbols and to give it, through the eye of the photograph, poetic expression.
