His unique style has made him very popular locally which is how he received the stage name "Platinum J". His accolades include appearance on the TV show called "So You Think You Can Dance" [2] and performing for Grammy award nominated R&B superstar Ginuwine during the Baltimore Believe Tour. In 2009 Platinum J won the grand prize after a stellar performance for "Baltimore's Got Talent." Jermaine has performed at many local events to include pep rally's and community services. Although he is highly influenced by Michael Jackson and James Brown he has an originality that compares to none. Jermaine "Platinum J" Melvin also produces his own music mixes for his routines and continues to put his personal stamp on today's modern hip hop dance
Grew up in a military family (Army) Born in Nuremberg,Germany living there for 2 years before moving to the states. At the age of 8 he moved to Washington State where he took up karate and later became a brown belt and within that time he also started dancing. Finally moving to Maryland were he started laying down the ground work as a dancer going to Harford Technical High School which is a performing arts school which he also studied as a computer Tech. After High School he went on and audition for "So You Think Can Dance"[3] on Fox Television. Continuing his dance journey back home in 2009 he won Baltimores got talent in the 18 and older category, with that came more opportunities in the dance and tv world even with all that going on he still decided to go to college and finish he's education by getting his masters in marketing at American InterContinental University.
