He is from the Netherlands. He gained a Bachelors degree in Business from Nyenrode Business University, in Breukelen, Utrecht (province). He was an officer in the Royal Netherlands Marine Corps.
He worked in the United States of America, and returned to the Netherlands in 1994.
He acquired an Master of Business Administration. Vodafone
In 2006 he became Director of Enterprise at Vodafone Netherlands. He joined Vodafone Netherlands in 1998.
He became Chief Executive of Vodafone Ireland in July 2010, later becoming the Chief Executive of Vodafone United Kingdom. Guy Laurence, who he replaced, was Chief Executive from 2005-2008 of Vodafone Netherlands.
