(In It Usually Begins With Ayn Rand, Jerome Tuccille takes...)
In It Usually Begins With Ayn Rand, Jerome Tuccille takes the reader on a “hilarious romp through the wild and kooky reaches of the libertarian right,” according to Publisher’s Weekly. Along the way he explodes many myths surrounding leading right-wing heroes, including Ayn Rand, Barry Goldwater, William F. Buckley, Jr., Ronald Reagan, and many others. He doesn’t spare himself from the satirist’s pen either, describing in detail his comic run for Governor of New York in 1974—an adventure that ended in near bankruptcy and personal turmoil. “Tuccille is damned funny. His book is a quick read; its pages turn quickly. This is pop history, not deep theory, so most of the pauses in the reading are caused by sudden bouts of laughter. What are we to make of a book that, when discussing Rand's comments about pollution, adds, ‘Ayn, you sweet, lovable, crazy bitch’? David Friedman wrote in his foreword to the 25th anniversary edition of this book: ‘If you are looking for a careful scholarly history of the libertarian movement... you had better look somewhere else. But for a vivid and entertaining picture of the early years of libertarianism, Tuccille's book has no equal.’” --The Colorado Freedom Report--www.freecolorado.com “Jerome Tuccille's classic history of contemporary libertarian politics is as informative as it is entertaining. Tuccille takes the reader along as he tells of his political conversion from Objectivist to Miscellaneous to Anarchist. He blends an element of mockery of the fringe in the political sphere with a genuine care for the people and events. I recommend it to anyone who is already familiar with the Libertarian world but needs a little education on the genesis of it.” --freemarket.net “Tuccille has got to be everyone’s favorite right wing individualist anarchist.” --Library Journal

This edition of It Usually Begins With Ayn Rand contains much of the text that appeared in the original edition—revised and edited to conform to modern style—plus new chapters dealing with events that took place after the book was first published. Some of the new material deals with my campaign for Governor of New York as the Free Libertarian Party candidate, a discussion of events that transpired on the American political scene after that benighted campaign, plus thoughts on my current political and spiritual leanings. The perennial success of It Usually Begins With Ayn Rand has startled no one more than me. Sales started slowly, then began to pick up over the years, until the book became an underground classic that has gained readership over the decades. It should be read as political memoir, a first-hand account of a political movement, mostly fact, but with fictional elements and hyperbole added for effect. A reviewer once said that most memoirs are neither fact nor fiction; they are the truth as the author remembers it. So it is with It Usually Begins With Ayn Rand.

(Before Bill had Monica problems in the White House, Paul ...)
Before Bill had Monica problems in the White House, Paul was having Monica problems in the corporate suite. "Wall Street Blues" takes the reader on the financial rollercoaster of the eighties and--surprise!--it turns out there's little difference between the eighties' lust for money and sex on Wall Street and the nineties' lust for power and sex in D.C. "Wall Street Blues" is a brilliant novel about the temptation to push morality to its limits. The narrator crosses the line between legal and criminal behavior. Then he crosses another line and succombs to his sexy young secretary, Monica. Once he does that, he comes very close to destroying both his professional career and personal life. Can a man enmeshed in corruption and scandal salvage the remnants of his career and his marriage? In "Wall Street Blues," anyway, the ending will surprise you.
