Goldstein, Jerome Arthur was born on August 5, 1941 in Pittsburgh. Son of Morris and Henrietta Goldstein.
Goldstein earned his B.S, Master of Surgery and Doctor of Philosophy degrees at Carnegie Mellon University in 1963, 1964 and 1967. His Doctor of Philosophy thesis Stochastic Differential Equations and Nonlinear Semigroups was supervised by Malempati M. Rao.
