He represented his native country at the 1984 Summer Olympics in Los Angeles, California, where he finished in ninth place in the men"s marathon.

Jerry Kiernan

Career
His team mate John Treacy claimed silver in the same race. A former Irish record holder over 3000 metres, Kiernan was also a sub-four-minute mile runner. He retired from teaching at Saint Brigid"s Boys School, Foxrock, in June 2013 where he was a teacher for approximately 40 years.
He lives in Rathgar, Dublin 6.
He is part of RTÉ"s athletics television coverage.
