Oberholtzer was the mayor of Snellville, Georgia from 2003 to 2011. Originally from Allentown, Pennsylvania, Oberholtzer received a bachelor of science degree in civil engineering from Clemson University in 1981
His election as mayor was his third run for public office. He had previously lost a bid to become a city councilman in 1997 but was subsequently elected in 1999.
He was previously the treasurer of the Gwinnett County Water and Sewer Board.
