Puljujärvi is rated as a top prospect who is expected to be a top 5 pick in the 2016 National Hockey League Entry Draft. Puljujärvi made his Liiga debut playing with Kärpät during the 2014-2015 Liiga season. In 7 games he scored 5 goals and 12 assists for 17 points, placing him second in all-time points for an under 18 player only behind Jaromír Jágr, and tying Wayne Gretzky and Eric Lindros.
He was subsequently declared Best Forward and Most Valuable Player of the tournament.
