Commissioned Second lieutenant infantry, United States Army, 1907, and advanced through the grades to brigadier general, January 29, 1941. Served in Cuba, China, Mexican Border and World War. Instructor and director Infantry School, 4 years.

Instructor Command and General staff schedul, 1926-1934. General staff, War Department, 1 year. Commanded 8th Infantry, Fort Screven, Georgia, 2 years.

Commanded 31st Infantry and Post of Manila, P.I., 2 years. Commanded 81st Infantry Brig., 41st Division, and Mobile Force, Caribbean Department, Panama. Chairman Field Section WDMB, Office C. of S. and member C. of S. group for survey of manpower, Mediterranean and European theaters.
