She began her career as a Russian-language broadcaster and writer for Voice of America, United States.S.R. Division. She was a Benton Fellow in Broadcast Journalism at the University of Chicago and studied at Leningrad State University, United States.S.R. She holds a Bachelor of Arts in Russian Language and Literature from the University of Michigan at Ann Arbor. After 30 years at Cable News Network, she left in 2013, but remains a foreign affairs correspondent.
