Eidson attended Morgan County High School (now Hartselle).

He received a scholarship to play at Mississippi State University, where he was converted from defensive tackle to offensive tackle. In 1975, as the starter at right offensive tackle, he received honorable mention All-Securities and Exchange Commission honors. In 2009, he was inducted into the Morgan County Hall of Fame.
Eidson was drafted in the second round (55th Overall) of the 1976 NFL Draft by the Dallas Cowboys, with the intention of switching him to offensive guard.
As a rookie he was a backup guard and center, playing in 9 games and was a part of the Super Bowl XII championship team In 1977, during a training camp blocking drill against Editor "Too Tall" Jones, he suffered a jammed neck and was subsequently diagnosed with a spinal cord condition, which forced him into early retirement.
Eidson became the president of Precedent Equities Limited Liability Company, a real estate company in Dallas, Texas.
