Career
Born in Seaton Delaval, Gotts began his career at Ashington prior to joining Brentford during the war years. His debut came on 31 January 1946, a 5–0 victory over Bristol City, and his final game came on 9 February 1946 in a 3–1 away victory over Queens Park Rangers in the following round. While registered with Brentford, Gotts signed on loan to Southern League club Colchester United for a single Southern League Cup match on 13 April 1946, resulting in a 5–2 away victory over Guildford City.
The following season, Gotts joined Brighton & Hove Albion, where he would make his Football League debut.
He made two league appearances for Brighton in total. James Gotts died in 1998.
