Coach Jim Preas was the first head college football coach for the The Apprentice School Builders located in Newport News, Virginia and he held that position for three seasons, from 1919 until 1921. His coaching record at Apprentice was 18 wins, 3 losses, and 1 tie. As of the conclusion of the 2007 season, this ranks him fifth at Apprentice in total wins and second at Apprentice in winning percentage (0818).
He died in 1965 and was buried in his hometown.
