He was drafted by the San Diego Padres in the 3rd round of the 1985 Major League Baseball draft, Tatum was the American Association Most Valuable Player in 1992, batting.329 with 19 home runs and 101 Reserve Bank of India. Tatum made his major league debut with the Milwaukee Brewers on September 18, 1992, and appeared in his final game on June 11, 1998. He hit the first grand slam in Colorado Rockies history on May 4, 1993. He also played for one season in Japan for the Yakult Swallows (2012 – ?).
