Jimmy Brown was a Belfast member of the Irish Republican Socialist Party, the Irish National Liberation Army, and the Irish People"s Liberation Organisation.
Career
Brown left the IRSP in the mid-eighties to join up with the IPLO. He was gunned down in his car on Clonard Street, Lower Falls, Belfast by the Irish Peoples Liberation Organisation Belfast Brigade (IPLOBB), a faction who opposed the IPLO leadership. A feud between the two groups was the cause of Brown"s killing. The IPLO and IPLOBB were forcibly disbanded by the Provisional Ireland Republican Army in November 1992.
Politics
He was the leader of the Republican Socialist Collective, which was set up as the political wing of the IPLO.
Membership
Brown"s son, Emmet McDonough Brown, was elected as an Alliance Party of Northern Ireland member of Belfast City Council at the Northern Ireland local elections, 2014.
