Naruse Jinzo was born on August 02, 1858 in Yamaguchi Prefecture, Japan. He was the son of a retainer of the Choshu Clan (Yamaguchi).

Naruse Jinzo was born on August 02, 1858 in Yamaguchi Prefecture, Japan. He was the son of a retainer of the Choshu Clan (Yamaguchi).
In 1875 he entered the Yamaguchi Prefectural Teachers Training School.
He became a primary school principal after graduation.
Also he became a Christian and devoted himself to women's education.
In 1888 Jinzo founded the Baika Girls School in Osaka and toured various parts of Japan as a preacher.
In 1890 he went to the United States for study.
Returning to Japan in 1894, he set about founding the Nihon Women's College, together with Shozo Aso. The women’s college opened in Mejiro, Tokyo in 1901, marking an epoch in women's education in Japan.
