In 1905 Jiro Komiya graduated from Electrical Engineering Department of Tokyo University and then studied at Postgraduate Department of the same university.
In 1910 Jiro was appointed an engineer of Naikaku Tetsudo-in (Cabinet Railway Bureau). Later he served as director of various railway bureaus and companies, ultimately becoming managing director of Toyoko Electric Railway Company in 1938. Then in 1940 he became president of the newly established Toyoko Rolling Stock Engineering Company. Moreover he held additional posts of senior managing director of Tokyu Electric Railway Company from 1942, president of the same company from 1945 and president of Nihon Motor Company from 1946.
