Jiro Watanabe graduated from Ship Engineering Department of Tokyo University in 1918.
Jiro Watanabe served first with Asano Shipbuilding Company and then transferred to Hakodate Dock Company (1936). Became chief of Engineering Section (1933), director (1938), managing director, senior managing director and factory superintendent and president (since 1947).
Held additional posts of member of Hokkaido Development Council and Marine Transportation & Shipbuilding Rationalization Council, auditor of Oguma Warehouse Company and Hakodate Oxygen Company, vice-chairman of Nihon Shipbuilding Industry Society, permanent director of Keidanren (Federation of Japan Economic Organizations) and president of Hakodate Employers' Association.
