Jisho Usui was born in 1900 in Nagano Prefecture, Japan.
Jisho Usui graduated from Philosophy Department of Kyoto University in 1926 and studied at the Postgraduate Department of the same university. In 1930-1932 he studied in Germany and France.
Jisho Usui served as lecturer of Kyoto Higher School of Technology, professor of Otani University and lecturer, assistant professor of Kyoto Philosophical Society from 1932, commissioner of Kyoto Philosophical Society, director of Japan Sociological Society and member of Social Sciencses Research Institute.
From 1951-1952 Jisho Usui served as dean of Literature Department of Kyoto Univerisity. In 1952 he represented Japan in International Congress of Sociology held at Istanbul University.
Usui held additional posts of commissioner of Kyoto Philosophical Society, managing director of Japan Sociological Society and councilor of Japan Ethnological Society.
