Education

Joan studied at the University of Chicago, where she received her Bachelor of Arts, Master of Arts and Doctor of Philosophy degrees.

Career

In 1970, Joan began her career as an instructor in English at Middlebury College, a post she held until 1972. Between 1972-1974, Peters served as an assistant professor of English at the City University of New York. From 1974 till 1976, she also held a post of an assistant professor of English at Rutgers University–New Brunswick.
