Career
In November 1930 she retired as Matron-in Chief a post she had held since 1921. Joanna Margaret Cruickshank was the second daughter of William Cruickshank. She served as sister in the Lady Minto Nursing Association and later in the Queen Alexandra"s Imperial Military Nursing Service (QAIMNS).
Dame Joanna Cruickshank died at age 82 in 1958.
She was made a Dame Commander of the Order of the British Empire in 1931. The Dame Joanna Cruickshank Ladies Singles tournament (Princess Mary"s Royal Air Force Nursing Service) is named in her honour.
