Background
Joao Gomes was born in Lisbon, Portugal in 1960. He was awarded a BSc in Chemical Engineering in 1983, from the Technical University of Lisbon. He holds a PhD in Chemical Engineering (1999) and a Habilitation in Chemical Engineering (2010) also from the Technical University of Lisbon. He started his career as an assistant lecturer, in 1981, in the Chemical Eng. Dept. of the Technical University of Lisbon. From 1983 to 1986 he worked as a researcher in the Portuguese National Laboratories for Engineering in the field of Combustion and Energy Engineering. From 1986 to 2005 he was Deputy-Director of ISQ, Oeiras, Portugal, in charge of the Division of Environment, Energy and Safety. Since 2006 he is Habilitated Professor at the Chemical Eng. Dept. of ISEL, Lisbon Polytechnic, and researcher of the University of Lisbon in the fields of Energy, Environment and Clean Processes. He has published more than 70 research papers in referred scientific international journals.
