Previously he worked for the Golden State Warriors from 2011-2013. Joe worked for the Boston Celtics for the 2010-2011 as a video international During the 2009-2010 season, He served as basketball operations assistant for the Maine Red Claws.

During the 2008-2009 season Boylan was the interim head coach of the Chicago Throwbacks.

Joe Boylan played from 2004-2008 for the Emerson College.
