Career
He was first elected to Parliament in the 1996 elections as a list Member of Parliament, having unsuccessfully contested the Te Tai Tokerau seat against incumbent Tau Henare of New Zealand First. In the 1999 elections, he remained a list Member of Parliament, opting not to stand in an electorate. He retired from politics at the 2002 elections.
Before entering Parliament, he worked as a consultant and a company director
He has been involved with a number of Māori organisations, including leading the Bastion Point protests and the Mai FM radio station.
