Joe Robert Wise

Background

Joe Robert Wise was born on July 11, 1939, in Fort Worth, Texas, United States. He is the son of Joe Robert and Madge (Brelsford) Wise.

Education

Wise received his education at Texas Christian University, graduating from it with a bachelor's degree in 1961. Three years later, he earned his Doctor of Medicine degree at Southwestern Medical School of the University of Texas.

Career

Wise became an intern in medicine at Parkland Memorial Hospital in 1964 and then was appointed as a resident in 1967. Two years later, he went to Royal Postgraduate Medical School of Hammersmith Hospital, where he worked as a fellow in cardiology.

From 1973 and till his retirement, Wise held various positions at Eastern Maine Medical Center and was also a cardiologist in a private practice since 1977.

• Joe Wise is best known as the author of the historical work, Cannibal Plateau, published in 1997.
