Jogen Tachibana was born in about 800. No exact dates are available, though records show that he was born in Chikuzen and lived during the Heian Period.

Career
It is said that when Priest Saicho was building a large temple on Mt. Hiei, during the 788th year of Emperor Kammu's reign, he was invited to play and chant the biwa at its ground-breaking ceremony.
Jogen's performance was so impressive that Saicho conferred on him the title of Hoin. This art remained in his family till the time of Kyokuo Tachibana (Chijo), the founder of the Chikuzen school of biwa players.
