Graduated from Tokyo University (1932) and studied at its Postgraduate Institute.
Appointed technical official of the government (1942), and scientific official, Education Ministry (1945). Became professor of Waseda University (1953) after being professor of Kanazawa University (1949). Began a thorough comparative study on ponds throughout the country. Wrote theses on reservoir for agricultural use and utilization of topography. Received Doctor of Science for "Geographic Study of Irrigation and Water Supply" (1952). Studied the relation between the percentage of rice paddies in farm land and tableland, and the water supplying capacities of rivers. Counselor of Japan Geographic Society.
