Johann Friedrich Bellerman was born on the 8th of March, 1795 in Erfurt, Germany.

Education

Bellermann studied theology and philosophy at the universities of Berlin and Jena.

Career

He taught Greek and musical disciplines at the gymnasium '' Zurn grauen Kloster" at Berlin. Since 1847 became it's Director.

Achievements

Bellermann was a distinguished writer on Greek music. He published a collection of previously unknown early Byzantine treatises on music (1841), which have since become known as the Anonymous Bellerman. In 1857 published Sophocles' tragedy "Oedipus Rex".
