He was educated at Reading School and Street John"s College, Oxford, although he never graduated from the latter.
In 1591 his father bestowed on him the lands at Southcote Manor, in what is now the Reading suburb of Southcote. He died at Reading on 9 August 1611 and is buried in Street Laurence"s Church there.
