Studied at Doctor Greig’s Private School. Walthamstow; Kensington Grammar School. Has been connected with His Majesty’s Consular Service since 1850, and after holding various Consular appointments in Turkey, was promoted Consul-General for the Vilayets of Salonica, Cossova, Janina, and Monastir, 1S7S.
Served as Chief Interpreter to the Cavalry’ Division under General Lord Lucan in the Crimea, and acted as his Lordship’s Secretary. Present at battles of the Alma, Balaclava, and Inkerman. Has also acted temporarily as French ViceConsul, twice at Volo and twice at Monastir.
As German Consul and twice as Belgian Consul at Salonica. Her Majesty’s Consul - General for Salonica, 1879-1899. His Britannic Majesty Consul (with rank of Consul-General)at Boston, 1899-1902.
Decorated: Crimean medal with clasps for Alma, Balaclava, and Inkerman. Turkish Crimean medal, 1855. Turkish Imtiaz medal in silver, 1890, and in gold, 1898.
Jubilee medal, 1897. Received in 1862 and 1868 the thanks of the President of the United States for services rendered to American citizens in the province of Adrianople, and was nominated in 1868 LT.S. Consul for Roumelia, but was not permitted to accept the appointment.
