After a number of television appearances in his early career, in 1988, John first gained wider recognition for his portrayal of the regular character David Lynch in the romantic sitcom Watching, alongside Liza Tarbuck. He remained in the role until the series ended in 1993. His extensive list of television credits includes regular roles in Steel River Blues, Woof!, Castles and Peak Practice, as well as guest appearances in series such as Agatha Christie"s Poirot, Casualty, Heartbeat, Kavanagh Queen's Counsel, Dangerfield, Grange Hill, Drop The Dead Donkey and Auf Wiedersehen, Pet.
John has also enjoyed stints in three of the United Kingdom"s most popular soap operas, playing Dougie Slade in EastEnders, John Wilding in Coronation Street and Ethan Black in Crossroads.
In 2013-2014 Bowler appeared as Chief Superintendent Coulson in two series of WPC 56.
