He is known for his work in integer factorization, including the development of the continued fraction factorization method. He has been a principal participant in the Cunningham project Brillhart received his Bachelor of Arts in 1953, his Master of Arts in 1966, and his Doctor of Philosophy in 1967, all from University of California Berkeley.
He is in the process of editing the collected works of Leonard Carlitz.
