John Cameron

Background

John Cameron was born on July 16, 1914, in Edinburgh, United Kingdom.

Education

John earned his Bachelor of Arts at the University of Leeds in 1939 and after serving in the military during World War II, received his diploma in education from the University of London in 1947.

Career

John Cameron spent some time at the University College of Makerere in Uganda, followed in 1948 by work in Tanganyika, where he rose to become assistant chief education officer for Tanzania. In 1964 he returned to England to teach at the University of London's education department, where he helped train teachers before they left England for assignments in Third World countries. Cameron retired in 1980.

Cameron was the author of The Development of Education in East Africa (1970) and co-author of Society, Schools, and Progress in Tanzania: The Commonwealth and International Library: Education and Educational Research (1970) and English Learner's Dictionary (1971).

Achievements
