After several years spent in banking, came to Canada in 1869 to become the Chief Clerk of the Treasury. Has served on several Commissions. Was Honourable Treasurer in Canada for the Indian Famine Fund.
Hon.Treasurer of Canadian Patriotic Fund and of Canadian Association for Prevention of Tuberculosis, and has filled other offices. I.S.0.1903; Deputy Minister of Finance and Receiver-General, and Secretary of the Treasury Board of Canada 1878-1906.
