With an early desire to become an architect he attended the Cooper Union School, and later completed a two-year course at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.
In York, Pa., where Mr. Dempwolf established an office he became a successful practitioner and acquired a high standing in the profession. Among the several important buildings he designed in the city were the Colonial Hotel, the National Bank Building, the York Trust Company, the County Court House and St. Mary's Catholic Church. He was also architect of Evangelical Churches built at Steelton and Johnstown, Pa., the Citizens National Bank at Frederick, Md., State Insane Hospital at Harrisburg, Pa., and the Lutheran Theological Seminary at Gettysburg, 1892.
He was made a member of the American Institute of Architects in 1901, and became a Fellow of the Institute in 1910.
He was the eldest of 12 brothers and sisters.
