Career
They named it after Jehudi Ashmun, a religious leader and social reformer. They founded the school for the education of African Americans, who had few opportunities. Doctor John Miller Dickey was the first president of the college (1854–1856).
Each of the men became ordained ministers.
John Miller Dickey was born in Oxford, Pennsylvania and educated from Dickinson College (Carlisle College)- class of 1824.
