Diehl played Delbert McCoy in the 1993 film Remote, for which he may be best known. He also appeared in such films as Stargate, Stripes, Gettysburg, The Hi-Lo Country, Jurassic Park III, Nixon, A Time to Kill, Mo" Money, and Singularity Principle. He appeared on television in Miami Vice (as Larry Zito) and The Shield.
Diehl later appeared in Burn Notice: The Fall of Sam Axe, a made-for-television movie based on the television series Burn Notice.
In 2011, he appeared in Monte Hellman"s romantic thriller Road to Nowhere.
