From Street John"s College, Oxford in 1950. In 1955, he immigrated to Canada to accept a position at McGill University. In 1958, he co-ordinated the first kidney transplant.
From 1960 to 1969, he worked at the Royal Victoria Hospital.
In 1960, he joined the University of Alberta as a professor of medicine, director of the Division of Nephrology and Immunology and co–director of the Medical Research Council, Transplantation Research Unit of the University of Alberta Hospital. From 1985 to 1996, he was the Director of the Bioethics Centre in the Faculty of Medicine (later named the John Dossetor Health Ethics Centre).
He was awarded the 125th Anniversary of the Confederation of Canada Meda He lives in Ottawa, Ontario.
