John Drane is hard to pigeonhole using conventional categories of conservative, liberal, and so on. He is certainly Christian, and stands within the mainstream of that tradition, and with a strong commitment to activism in relation to mission and evangelism, though is the opposite of the narrow mindedness often associated with those who share similar concerns. "Eclectic" is perhaps the best description of his theology, while his churchmanshiip has always been ecumenical rather than narrowly sectarian.
In Myers-Briggs personality type, John Drane is ENFP - creative, intuitive, not too concerned about boundaries and structures, though somehow managing to combine all that with wide acceptance in the higher echelons of traditional British society (he has been a personal guest of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II at her Scottish home, Balmoral Castle).
Married to Olive Mary Fleming. Children: Andrew James Jonathan, Mark Samuel Paul, Alethea Joy Frances.
