Mr .Ely had been in practice continuously from 1885 to 1922, later maintained an office in association with his son. Among the important buildings with which he was identifed were the Mutual Life Insurance Building; Baby's Hospital, the New Jersey Memorial Building, all in Newark; the new City Hall (in association with Mowbray & Uffinger), and the Fireman's Insurance Building, where the Ely's had an office. The firm also designed the City Hall at East Orange, N. J.
