Opening an office first in St. Joseph, Mo., he carried on a general practice there for ten years;, later moved to Kansas City and early in the century organized the firm of J. H. Felt & Company. After twenty years as head of that office, in 1927 he became senior partner in the firm of Felt, Dunham & Kriehn, and in 1936 following Mr. Dunham's withdrawal, continued under the name of Felt & Kriehn.
Many large public and educational buildings, churches and schools in Missouri and Kansas were planned by Mr. Felt and his associates, of which the following may be cited as notable examples: Boone County Court House, Columbia, Mo., 1908; Administration Building at Teachers College, Maryville, Mo., 1910; Senior High and Junior High Schools, Emporia, Kansas, Science Hall (1913) and Administration Building at Emporia College, Kans., 1926; First Baptist Church, Kansas City, 1924; First Presbyterian Church, Independence, Kans., 1927; High School, Lexington, Mo., 1927; Senior High School, Hannibal, Mo., 1932; State Hospital, Farmington, Mo., 1937; Schools at Fulton, Mo., 1937, and the Junior High School, Jefferson City, Mo., 1938.
In 1904 he became publisher of Modern Architecture magazine.
