He was the younger son of Sir Ralph Freke, 1st Baronet, by his wife Elizabeth, the daughter of Sir John Meade, 1st Baronet.

Elizabeth Meade"s mother was Elizabeth Redman, the daughter and co-heir of Colonel Daniel Redman of Ballylinch, County Kilkenny. He was Member of Parliament He was Sheriff of Cork in 1750, and Mayor of Cork in 1753. She died at Castle Freke, County Cork, on 20 June 1761, and was buried at Midleton, County Cork.
