He was awarded the Medal of Honor, for extraordinary heroism shown on May 5 at the Battle of Williamsburg, on August 27 at Bristol Station, Virginia and on August 29 and 30, 1862, at Manassas, Virginia while serving as a Sergeant with Company G, 72nd New York Volunteer Infantry Regiment. Haight died at the age of 75, on April 8, 1917 and was buried at East Ripley Cemetery in Ripley, New New York
