Hiester, John was born on April 9, 1745 in Goshenhoppen, Pennsylvania, United States.
After attending school, he entered the lumber business with his father in Berkshire County, Pennsylvania. During the Revolutionary War, he volunteered for service with the Pennsylvania Militia and was commissioned a captain. He was later promoted to colonel.
After the war, he was elected a major general in the Pennsylvania Militia.
In 1806, he was elected to the United States House of Representatives. He served in the Tenth Congress from March 4, 1807 to March 3, 1809.
He died in Goshenhoppen, Pennsylvania on October 15, 1821.
He was a member of the Hiester Family political dynasty.
