Born in Goodmayes on 14 July 1920 he was educated at Westcliff High School for Boys and Durham University. He was ordained in 1944, he began his ecclesiastical career as a Curate at All Saints, Scarborough. He was Chaplain at Adisadel College Gold Coast and then Vice-Principal of Edinburgh Theological College.
In 1955 he was elevated to the Episcopate, retiring in 1969.
He died 26 April 2001, aged 80.
