John attended College of Wooster from 1951 until 1952. He received from Georgia Institute of Technology his Bachelor of Science in 1956 and a Bachelor of Architecture in 1957.
Howey served for the U.S. Army in Corps of Engineers from 1957 till 1958 and from 1961 until 1962. He worked as an architect with firms in Atlanta, GA, San Francisco, CA, and Tampa, FL, from 1958 until 1965. He was also an architect in Tampa from 1965 until 1973.
John Howey Associates is his Tampa Bay architectural firm formed in 1973. Howey was also president of Baypark, Inc.
John Howey Associates has received numerous local, state and American Institute of Architects Design Awards for the Florida/Caribbean Region. In 2000, they received the AIA Award of Honor for Design as one of Florida top design firms of the 20th century. Their work has been exhibited at Selby Gallery and New College, Sarasota.
Tampa Bay AIA Gallery. And at the AIA National Convention, Orlando as well as the AIA Regional Convention Tour of Homes, Tampa. John Howey was selected for AIA’s most prestigious honor, the designation of a member as a Fellow of the American Institute of Architects.
He has been a member of the American Institute of Architects (fellow), Sertoma (life member), Exchange Club.
John married Maria Hatges on September 8, 1968. The couple has 2 children: John McDermott, Dorothy Howey Bardin.
