(Below the Beltway skewers Washington in the age of Clinto...)
Below the Beltway skewers Washington in the age of Clinton with Jackley's trademark brand of outrageous humor and muckraking revelations. From the opening chapter, where he accompanies an undercover television crew on a congressional sting that made headlines, Jackley takes the readers into the real world of Washington — the political back alleys of scandal and corruption. Jackley shows how politics is really played in Washington: how laws are made, policies decided, influence sold, careers made and lost, spouses dumped — and taxpaying voters taken for fools. He also introduces the readers to the "low-lifes in high places", who grease the wheels of Washington's corrupt political machine.

John L. Jackley was born in 1955. He grew up in the Panama Canal Zone.
John attended Washington and Lee University.
In 1981, John started to work as a congressional aide in Washington, D.C. At first, Lackley was idealistic. He enjoyed the power he gained from his congressional work. But as the years wore on, and he saw more and more of the compromise and — in his opinion — downright sleaziness in the day-to-day functioning of the United States government, he became cynical and disillusioned.
When one of his sons had a brush with death, it caused Jackley to reevaluate his life. In 1992, he left the politics, became a freelance writer and moved to Oregon to begin working on a novel.
Currently, he acts as a full-time writer and lives in Portland, Oregon.
