John Kellum was born in 1807 in New York, United States.
An early architect in the city, Mr. Kellum was connected with the planning and/or erection of several buildings during the middle years of the nineteenth century. For his client, Alexander Stewart, he designed the store, a great iron structure which stood at the corner of Broadway and Tenth Street, and in addition Mr. Stewart’s house on Fifth Avenue.
While credited in his obituary as the architect of several important business structures, it is probable he may have served as designer for the appointed architect. It is also stated he was the original architect of the old New York Court House which was completed by Leopold Eidlitz.
